Orchestrated the end-to-end redesign of Sensitech’s ColdStream, an intricate B2B enterprise platform serving the Supply Chain & Logistics Division.

Led a multidisciplinary team comprising a Business Analyst, Front-End Developer, UX Researcher, and UX Designer. Adopted a four-phase approach: Discovery & Definition, Initial Design, Detailed Design, and Front-End Development.

Challenge: A legacy application built on soon-to-be-deprecated Microsoft ActiveX, necessitating client-specific 50-page manuals for user onboarding—exemplifying the urgent need for modernization and UX simplification.

Collaborated with the VP of Product to iteratively map out a comprehensive service design blueprint. Engaged multiple functional teams for input, finalizing a visual guide as an essential onboarding tool for subsequent research and design phases.

We conducted a heuristic analysis to identify system shortcomings and interviewed account managers to gain user insights. Utilized affinity mapping exercises to distill needs and wants, culminating in evidence-based design principles focused on building a task-based enterprise application.

Identified 'search' as a universal yet fragmented task across user roles. Deconstructed the search process into modular components, paving the way for a configurable Admin Application. Introduced 'Saved Views' to tailor data visibility according to user roles.

Dissected the search process into four major components tailored to the specific needs of various user archetypes. Guided by the questions each role asked of the data, we designed UI elements that would be most impactful for each user type.

Developed clickable prototypes for internal stakeholder validation, leading to a 'Demo Tour' for more robust user feedback. Conducted virtual concept testing with clients globally, from Finland to Mexico, to validate design solutions against real-world pain points and goals.

Faced challenges around legibility and readability in early design comps, necessitating a change in designers mid-stream. Utilized strengths-based team realignment and relied on established research and design principles to navigate contentious design iterations.

Achieved a final design focused on enhanced search components in the left-hand navigation, prioritized readability and legibility for data access, and introduced task-oriented buttons for universal role-based actions—secured stakeholder approval, transitioning to a blended team approach for front-end development and offshore backend integration.

Achieved a 75% reduction in click count, streamlining task-based user interactions in a context where every click matters. Forged strong client relationships, culminating in a highly engaged and collaborative project closure complete with donuts and hugs.

Streamlining 13+ Apps into a Cohesive User Experience

Background:

Sensitech's ColdStream, a complex B2B enterprise platform in the Supply Chain & Logistics Division, evolved into a labyrinth of functionalities. As Team Lead, I was entrusted with the mammoth task of redesigning this platform, which had grown into an ecosystem of 13 overlapping apps due to client-specific functionality additions over time.

Objective:

Our key goal was to boost user task effectiveness and efficiency, reduce errors, and increase success rates. In essence, we aimed to simplify the complexities of the existing system to save valuable time and enhance user satisfaction.

Process & Approach:

The first step was to conduct an exhaustive heuristic analysis to pinpoint and prioritize areas that needed improvement. We then collaborated closely with process owners and users worldwide to understand their unique pain points and requirements. This effort was complemented by cross-functional engagement with the Engineering and Account Management teams, whose insights proved invaluable to our strategy.

To chart our course, we created a Service Design Blueprint of the current state of the platform. This blueprint provided a high-level view of the service and allowed us to identify critical functional areas to tackle first. By iterating on these targeted service sections, we developed streamlined user flows that reduced clicks, leveraged existing information, and linked systems more efficiently.

Outcome:

Our comprehensive redesign strategy culminated in a remarkable 50% reduction in time spent on tasks, as evidenced by a significant decrease in click count. This achievement underscored the effectiveness of our user-centric approach in eliminating redundancies and enhancing productivity.
