Boston Red Sox - Microsoft Hololens Proof of Concept
At Slalom Boston, we partnered with the Boston Red Sox to participate in a Hack-a-thon sponsored by Microsoft. Being a part of the Early-Access Hololens Program, we got our hands on the Hololens before the general public.
Playing the role of UX lead, the design challenge was 'How might we enhance the Luxury Box Experience for the ultimate fan?'
Storyboarding the experience with pen and paper was crucial to communicating the vision of the experience to the team since current prototyping tools don't exist for XR.
The Hololens App lets a fan:
Watch an instant replay that just happened seconds ago in a virtual field
Choose a view of how to view it, from an Umpire's view to a 3rd base foul line seat
That double that Mookie just hit, you can interact with his stat card to see what it did to his average
Even though we didn't win the competition, being able to shape the new and apply human-centered principles resulted in an experience that fans and non-fans could enjoy, virtually for real :)
